America – a free country?

We Americans seem to believe that we live in a “free” country, but do we really? In reality, our freedoms are limited, restricted, regulated, ignored, degraded, and some freedoms are on the verge of being taken completely away from us. Before you read further you should know the definitions of two words, and many of you do not truly know these meanings.

  1. Freedom: The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.
  2. Liberty: A right to engage in certain actions without control or interference by a government or other power. The right or power to act as one chooses.

Today it seems like we need to ask permission to do almost anything, and that makes us less free than we understand. Here are just a few examples of what we need to ask permission to do, before we are allowed to do them. I could add many more but you will get the idea, and feel free to add more in a comment if you like.

  • Fish, hunt, or trap game to provide food for our families (hunting permit).
  • Drill wells on private land to have water (drilling permit).
  • Carry a firearm (concealed carry permit)
  • Enter and enjoy public lands, parks, and recreation areas (entrance pass).
  • Get married (marriage license).
  • Own a dog (dog license).
  • Drive a car (drivers license).
  • Operate a motor driven boat on rivers, lakes and streams (boat registration).
  • Build a shed or plant a garden on private property (in some areas).
  • Build a home (building permit – same for above example).
  • You get the idea…

When our founding fathers created our nation they knew what it was like to live in a country where almost everything that you did was controlled by the government. When they decided to break free from the constraining tyranny of British rule and create a new nation, they wanted this nation and the people in it to be free and not have to ask for permission to do or to own things. This is why the Constitution was created and the Bill of Rights were written as the supreme law of the land – to secure the freedoms and liberties of the people from government restrictions. These documents are the foundation of America, and what has made this country strong – but self serving establishment politicians have been dissolving our freedoms and rights slowly for decades. They have been doing this intentionally for one simple reason – power to control.

The only way that anyone gains power is if the people submit to control.

This means that no matter if it’s a small town mayor or the president, if you submit to their control then you give them power over you – and in doing so you give up your freedoms and liberties. Politicians and presidents are elected to lead, not to control. When those who are elected try to control, it is up to the people to resist that control in order to regulate the power – otherwise tyranny is born.

It is sad that in a America where we are supposed to be free that we have to ask permission to do basic things like drill a well for water or hunt for food. We shouldn’t have to pay for an “entrance pass” to enter state or federal parks and recreation areas or any other such public lands. We shouldn’t have to ask permission to build or add a room to a home, or many other things that we have to ask and be granted permission first before we can do. That is not what true freedom is all about, nor is it what our founding fathers created.

These freedoms and liberties that America was created to provide have been restricted slowly, it didn’t happen overnight. The old expression “given them an inch and they will take a mile” has been proven with all of the restrictions that we have come to accept as common place. When the requirement of a license to own a dog was created, that should have been the wake up call to the people to stand and say – enough!

We need to roll back government restrictions (federal, state and local), not progress restrictions like the new so called “progressive Democrats” want to do. If we fail to stop those types now then it won’t be long before we will need a permit to cross over from one state into another, or to even own a computer. We are progressing into an age of restrictions on top of restrictions, and if you don’t believe me then look some of the things that Obama has already done and Hillary wants to continue. Obama promised to reduce government, but instead he increased it larger than it ever was. The biggest example is when Obama put the personal health of EVERY American under control of the federal government with Obama care, and put the governments biggest watchdog (the IRS) in control of enforcing it. Every American citizen is now required by federal law to purchase a service from a third party (insurance company) or go to prison. Some argue that Obama care is a good thing, but is it a good thing when a country’s government forces you to buy something or go to prison? That my friends is NOT a free country.

Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth – unless the people submit and allow it. It is time to take the control away from the government and give it back to the people.
