Excuses or Reasons?

We’ve all heard the government, and individual politicians, tell us why something was done by the government. Most of what they tell us contradicts fact, especially on topics like gun laws, spending tax dollars, and going to war with other countries.

Before you can sift through the inaccuracies, false facts and outright lies, you must first understand the difference between two words – reason and excuse.

The dictionary gives the following definitions for these two words;

  • Reason: a cause, explanation, or justification for an action or event.
  • Excuse: attempt to lessen the blame attaching to (a fault or offense); seek to defend or justify.

I have my own interpretation of these two definitions;

  • Reason: Truthful facts in regard to, or of an action or event that are given with honesty.
  • Excuse: False facts in regard to, or of an action or event that is given when you want to hide the true “reason”.

A couple of easy samples;

  • The false excuse: The dog ate my homework.
  • The true reason: I didn’t do my homework.

I’m sure you get the idea.

Usually when a government politician talks about why they want to pass more restrictive laws like gun control, they always give excuses combined with false or bloated facts. When a tragedy like a “mass shooting” occurs, that gives politicians the sympathy effect to sway public opinion in their favor. When it comes to declaring war against another country, the politicians will use the old faithful “humanitarian” excuse to gain public support, and the reason is usually something with financial gain. In either of these instances the excuse is used to cover the true reason, topped off with a sympathetic tug on your heart strings. It’s like making a banana split – the ice cream alone wouldn’t be enough, so the toppings with a cherry give it the irresistible appeal.

The politicians never let a good tragedy go to waste because a good tragedy draws a larger following of support due to the shock reaction, and it also gives lots of room for an excuse due to the instant confusion that was created by the tragedy. A tragedy is the fastest way for a politician to gain your confidence and make you believe that they have your best interest as their priority. Whether it be a shooting, earthquake, flood, or even something accidental, you can always count on a politician to utilize the tragedy for their own gain or agenda.

This is where common sense needs to be used by the people, along with fact checking, before we choose a story to believe or act on. Politicians will jump on a tragedy usually before it hits the evening news while it is still fresh, all in order to feed the people a false fact filled excuse in order to set your opinion in cement before you have a chance to sort through the actual facts. It’s your responsibility to check the facts before making your conclusions and judgement. Don’t let the politicians or main stream media make your decisions for you.

The tragedy in Benghazi where our Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed is the only proof you should need for a false excuse being used over truthful reason. The Obama administration lead by Hillary Clinton held a press conference before the smoke of the tragic event had cleared, and they instantly gave the excuse of a YouTube video as the cause – when the truthful reason was a terrorist attack. Obama and Clinton both knew the attack was from terrorists before they used the YouTube video excuse, but that didn’t stop them from lying to the public. They also kept pushing the excuse of a YouTube video for several days, and even had the guy who made the YouTube video arrested in order to back up their excuse. They would have kept to that excuse forever if the truthful facts had not got out to the public. In the fallout was an innocent man that was imprisoned who merely made a movie that had no connection to the attack in Benghazi. This just goes to show and prove the lengths at which the government will go in order to make people believe a lie. The sad thing now is that lots of people do not care that Obama and Hillary both lied to the American people and had an innocent man arrested – they would still vote Hillary to be President… but that’s a whole other story to cover later.

Now that you know the difference between a “reason” and “excuse”, maybe you will not jump to believing what a politician tells you, but instead conduct your own search for the facts. Maybe now you will use common sense and not support politicians who are proven liars, and make wiser choices when it comes to politicians – especially career politicians. If you reward a politician for lying (by voting for them), then they will continue to lie to you.
